Rich People Just Don’t Get It

It became very obvious this week when the auto maker CEO’s showed up, begging cups in hand to ask for government bail outs that they just don’t get it.
They don’t understand why they shouldn’t continue to fly in multi-million dollar corporate jets. They don’t understand why they shouldn’t continue to collect their multi-million dollar salaries. They don’t understand why the public is not anxious to just hand over millions of dollars in tax funds to these greedy money losing corporations so they can continue to operate in the same old irresponsible manner.

Millions of people on this continent and around the world struggle daily just to afford the necessities of life.  Huge numbers of folk run small businesses with varying degrees of success, many just one step away from failure. There are no government bail outs for those folk if they screw up and make bad business choices.
And yet these CEO’s think they’re entitled. It seems they don’t believe they need to be held accountable or suffer any personal loss for their failure to succeed.  They’re very quick to demand credit and expect bonuses when their decisions are good ones but with no corresponding reductions when their leadership falters.
Its high time companies of all types and sizes begin structuring their wages and bonuses based on performance and profitability and not on entitlement. How about rewarding excellence and penalizing incompetence? What would be wrong with tying CEO’s income to their performance very similar to truck drivers? I wonder how many would line up for the job then.
